Reason for introducing 3D welding table

The reason they took notice of the 3D welding table was that they felt it would be ideal for their high-mix, low-volume manufacturing site, which is their strength. From his experience on-site, President Ishimaru was keenly aware of the issue that "making the jigs required for the welding process takes a lot of man-hours, which directly affects quality, cost, and delivery time (QCD)." As one way to solve this issue, they considered introducing a 3D welding table, which would significantly reduce the effort required for jig manufacturing.

The deciding factor in the introduction was the wide variety of clamps available and their practicality, which allows them to flexibly handle a variety of workpieces on site. The first unit was introduced in 2018. Since then, the number of units has been increased in line with the expansion of the production system and diversification of needs, and as of 2025, five units are in operation.

Benefits of introducing a 3D welding table

The introduction of the 3D welding table has eliminated the need for jig production, which previously took one to two days, and has improved the speed of work preparation. It has also been reported that the overall labor hours for welding work have been reduced by approximately 10%. Initially, the table was not used frequently because workers were accustomed to the previous method, but as craftsmen have been optimizing their work methods through their own ingenuity, efficiency has steadily improved.

Furthermore, because it is now easier to calculate distortion during welding, it is now possible to pre-drill holes, improving finish accuracy. This has also reduced rework in later processes, leading to more stable quality. Even large frames can be firmly fixed with clamps, which has increased safety, and they said they can now weld large products with peace of mind. These effects have also led to reduced costs and shorter delivery times, which have contributed greatly to improving QCD and overall productivity.
